Sunny skies and warm weather welcomed over 500 cars to downtown Bay City over the weekend at the Cool City Car Show. The car show had a favorite pick for every one as the cars lined the streets.

Trio Bob Batko of Houghton Lake, Art Petee and Dennis Batko, both of Bay City, enjoyed looking at the cars engines and styles. Petee's favorite was the 1969 Pontiac GTO while Dennis Batko's favorite was a red Chevy Camaro.

Vehicles parked for viewing included a 1936 Ford Roadster. Proud owner was Larry Clark of Hale. He has participated in this car show for about 4 years and several other car shows for about 30 years.

Kathy Christensen of Bay City loves that the car show is so close to her home here in Bay City."My husband and I purchased the car in 1980 and married in 1981. We drove to Florida in it for our honeymoon," she said.

This is the second year Christensen has participated in the car show. "It was so nice last year we decided to participate again this year," she added.

Car lovers, local business owners and all involved, come together every year for two reasons: to put on a great car show and raise money for the American Cancer Society. For all, it's a win-win event. "I think it's a great event all around to bring to downtown Bay City," said Brian Krause, community representative for the American Cancer Society. "And the proceeds of the event go directly to the American Cancer Society to fight cancer, find cures through research and to all the programs we provide."

Thelen Auto Group has been the presenting sponsor for the past four years. Mike Thelen stated the company decided to partner up for one important reason: the American Cancer Society."We thought it as a great way to help out. Everybody at Thelen is happy they wanted us to be involved," he said.

The "Car Cruze" was held Friday night and was a sight to see. "Even with the 90 degree sweltering heat, we had over 400 cars for the car cruz. It was fantastic. The cruz was incredible," Thelen added.

Donations to the American Cancer Society would not be possible without the many premier sponsors involved. In addition to Thelen Auto Group, premier sponsors included Be Cool Radiators, Art Dore and the Dore family, BASF and Finish Master. "Without these guys there is no way we can put on this show. And there would be no way we could provide those dollars to the American Cancer Society," Thelen said. Over the past 14 years, the car show has raised over a whopping $100,000.

Thelen also made special thanks to Next Media and TV-5, who gets the word out through marketing and adverting. "We couldn't do it without them," he added.

The American Cancer Society's next event is set for next weekend, July 20-22 at Veteran's Memorial Park.
