"Jumanji: Welcome To the Jungle" was fun! It appealed to my whole group, ranging in age from middle school to me.
If you didn't see the original with Robin Williams from 22 years ago you'll be fine.
In this version, the game is discovered by a group of high school students who were ordered to clean out a storage room during detention. It's in the form of a video game so they decide to take a break and play. One girl, Martha, got in trouble for sassing a teacher. Another girl, Bethany, is a self-centered princess who can't be without her phone.
The two guys were caught cheating. One is a huge jock, Fridge, and the other is the quiet nerd, Spencer, who writes his papers. To start their game they have to chose which character they will be. As they begin to play they are suddenly sucked into the game itself. That's when the fun begins.
The actors who were cast as their game personas were perfect. Spencer becomes Dwayne Johnson. Fridge is the motor-mouth Kevin Hart. Bethany becomes Jack Black and Martha is played by Karen Gillan. The adult actors did a great job of hanging onto their teenage angst and actions. We laughed and giggled through the whole movie. The special effects are well done. The story moves quickly and has a couple nice twists. We loved it!
So go. Have fun. Eat popcorn.
