Suzanne Kart
Suzanne Kart, Marketing Manager for the Dow Event Center and Huntington Event Park in Saginaw, talked about the facilities, recent improvements, and the many upcoming programs.

Looking at the history of the Event Center, Kart told of many of the big names who have appeared there. In fact, she showed a picture of a "Settlement Statement", filled in by hand, from a performance by Elvis just months before his death in 1977. Then there's the WWE star who asked if the Center had a piano because he likes to play alone for a couple of hours before going on.

The Event Center is usually thought of as a venue for performers, of every type. But it also caters to events of many types. Facilities including the Garden Room, the Red Room, and the Theater are all rented. The Center features an in-house caterer, audiovisual support, unique designable event spaces, and on-site event coordinators.

One of the newest features is the outdoor Huntington Event Park with it's large covered stage and lawn for audiences. Outdoor events from Spring to Fall are regular features on local TV news.

Kart related several interesting stories including how the indoor area is used for ice skating. She said that when the Monster Trucks came to perform, an artificial floor was laid over the ice and dirt was put on top of that. "You'd never know what was under that performance area."

A list of the many upcoming events and shows was presented. Among the notable ones is "Brew Ha-Ha" beer and comedy shows on January 18 and 19. Over 40 breweries will be on hand and feature 150 styles of beer, cider, and meads. February 1 will see ZoSo, "the ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience". And on February 7, William Shatner will be on hand for a screening of "The Wrath of Kahn" followed by a question and answer session.

Other offerings will include Cirque du Soleil On Ice, the Harlem Globetrotters, and a Beatles. Broadway shows, comedy shows, Red Green, John Mellencamp, and Monster Trucks. The venue is easy to reach, has great parking, and is an affordable experience for everyone.
