Great Lakes Bay Health Centers Speaks to Rotary

Jill Armentrout, development director for Great Lakes Bay Health Centers spoke to Rotary last Tuesday about the mission and impact of her organization.

Great Lakes Bay Health Centers (formerly Health Delivery, Inc.) was founded in 1969. The mission at the time was based on a grant to the Saginaw County Health Department to provide health care to farmworkers. Over the years, the center has grown from primarily assisting migrant workers to an organization that has over 440 employees and serves 50,000 patients. They are now one of the largest federally qualified community health centers in the state.

The center provides excellent health care to individuals and communities, especially those who are underserved, uninsured or underinsured. The modern, fully equipped and staffed centers are found inside a number of hospitals and healthcare centers. They also operate from their own buildings.

Because transportation is a major problem for many who need their services, the center has their own transportation service for patients. They also operate a large, walk-in Mobile Medical unit and three similar Mobile Dental units. School-based health centers are located in Arthur Hill and Saginaw High schools.

Staff Doctors ensure the highest quality of service. The center says that they deliver 60% of all babies delivered in the state. A new service addresses behavioral health issues.

CLUB NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENTS

Andrea Hales introduced a new RED BADGE program for the club. New members are currently identified by a red "new member" sticker. Under the new program, new members will be asked to complete five tasks in their first year. When those have been done, the club will formally remove the red sticker at a Rotary meeting.

Members are encouraged to attend the Chamber of Commerce's State of the Community Luncheon at the Doubletree from 11:00 am until 1:30 pm. Members will receive a makeup for attending.
The club will hold a social meeting at Tri-City Brewery that evening from 6:30 until... (pay as you go)

March 6, 2018: Become a Paul Harris Fellow. Andreas Teich will talk about how to be sponsored and become a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow.

March 20, 2018: Michigan Sugar and GMOs . member Rob Clark, along with Rita Herford, will tell you "everything you should know" about Michigan Sugar Company and GMO's.

March 27, 2018: All Music is Power Donny Brown from the Verve Pipe will be talking about their non-profit "Music is Power", accompanied with a little music as well.
