Tara Welch
Tara Welch, Director of Studio 23, spoke to Rotary about the upcoming MI Made Marketplace slated got the weekend of September 30 and October 1. The event will run in conjunction with the Hells Half Mile Film and Music Festival (HHM).

Tara said that the event is the brainchild of several well know people in downtown Bay City. Laura Horwath of Ferne Boutique, photographer Amanda Ray, Electrich Kitsch's Jordan Pries, entrepreneur/photographer Avram Golden, and HHM's Alan LaFave was all part of the planning.

The event will bring artists, and food trucks, to downtown Bay City for the weekend. The "family fun event" will include vendors who make their products in Michigan, delicious food, and general fun. Admission is free. Proceeds from the event will go to support the local community.

Tara said that over 100 artists applied for the event. This year's event has room for only 50 so the selection jury was able to fill all of those slots are assigned.

Street vendors will be on Washington Ave. between 4th and Center. Food trucks will be located on 5th Street.

Having the event the same weekend as HHM was intentional, said Tara. "We saw a benefit to the two events complimenting each other". The audiences are different but similar and each audience will enjoy the attractions of both events.

This is the first MI Made Marketplace but it certainly won't be the only one. The potential in Bay City is great and the organizers anticipate a great reception.

CLUB NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENTS

Cindy Chadwick is taking sign-ups for the Foundation Gala in Frankenmuth scheduled for November 17.

Future Rotary social nights are being organized by Frank Janca. He announced that information will be available in the next couple of weeks.

The Zombie Run is only a few weeks off. Information is on the web site and Facebook.

Brenda Scramlin is organizing volunteers. We need about 50 people to cover all the stations on the run as well as work various areas. This is a major event for the club and your help is needed! The "Face the FX" face painting group will be on hand again this year to provide that essential ZOMBIE look. Andrea Hales is recruiting sponsors.

Tara Welch announced that the Community Grant cycle's deadline has been extended to October 15. The club has money to give to community organizations that serve "Youth and Education". If you know of a candidate, be sure to have them check the club web site, RotaryBayCity.org.

Ed Keating noted that the program in two weeks will be a special event. Make plans to be here on September 26 when we hear the story of the "Hiding Place" Anneke Burke-Kooistra will tell how, as a young girl living in Nazi-occupied Holland, she never knew that her parents were harboring eight Jews in their home during the Nazi Occupation. Those who have heard the presentation say that it's a riveting story.

Thanks to Frank Janca for the bread and wine that was auctioned off. The sourdough bread was baked the day before in San Francisco and came back with Frank on a plane overnight!

Bob Chadwick announced that we have arranged to partner with the Morning Rotary for this year's Vocational Days. This should extend the reach and provide an even better experience for the students.

Next summer's International Convention will be in Toronto, an easy trip for many of us. Be sure you sign up with her if you can make this life-changing Rotary experience.
