On Thursday, June 20th from 11am to 7pm you can view the secret spaces of 6 private gardens located in Essexville and Bay City's Eastside thanks to the Bay City Garden Club's annual Garden Walk. The funds raised at this year's event will cap a 3 year fund-raising drive by the Bay City Garden Club to complete the Kantzler Memorial Arboretum, located on Bay City's Westside across from the Bay County Community Center.
As you meander down winding pathways you will find hidden treasures, beautiful vistas and tranquil fountains. These private gardens have never been open to the public and will inspire all levels of garden enthusiasts.
Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions while local artisans show off their art in spaces throughout the gardens. Local vendors will pedal their wares at a Garden Market at the Jones home.
Your ticket donation of $10 covers the tour of all 6 gardens, entrance to the Garden Market and allows you to purchase lunch for a special price of $7.95 at the Atruim, located in Downtown Bay City. You can buy your ticket online at www.baycitygardenwalk.com or any of the fine businesses listed on our website. Tickets purchased on the day of the walk at the homes will be $12.
This event is held RAIN OR SHINE! For more information including detailed directions to the homes
call Shelley Patterson, Garden Walk co-chair at 989-684-6419.
Work is in progress at the Arboretum. Plantings are in place and concrete walks now loop throughout the newly graded southwest section. Benches will soon be placed. The final phase of construction will include an "Interpretive Center" featuring bronze plaques documenting the Arboretum history and a pergola serving as a grand entry into the area.
Several Arboretum pocket gardens are still available for adoption by individuals or groups to plant and maintain. Community members can become Arboretum volunteers by filing out the contact form on the Bay City Garden Club's website.
Donations for benches and trees, which include an inscribed memorial block, can be accepted on the Bay City Garden Club's website. For individual item costs contact Deb Holbein at 989-262-8104.
