This June Miss Bay County, Alicia McInerney, will make history at Miss Michigan, presenting a talent that has never before graced the stage.

Alicia will make her mark in the history books by figure skating for the talent portion of the Miss Michigan competition - a first in the history of the Miss America Organization. "I've said since the first time I competed in Miss Bay County, if I make it to Miss Michigan, I want to skate," says Alicia.

This June Alicia will step out onto a sheet of synthetic ice determined to wow the judge's panel and audience as she represents Bay County and vise for the title of Miss Michigan 2012.

Growing up, Alicia was a competitive figure skater for over 10 years, training locally at the Bay County Civic Arena. Alicia says that rink is a part of who she is. "The first time I ever stepped foot onto a rink was at the Civic Arena. I didn't realize then what it would come to mean to me," comments Alicia. Over the course of her skating career Alicia went on to compete internationally and was ranked 28th in the Midwest in the United States Figure Skating Future Champions Series.

Alicia's skating is taking on a new life through her year as Miss Bay County. Alicia's passion for skating also led to her platform, Ignite the Passion Within - a movement focused on encouraging young people to find their passion and use it to build a better life. The Miss Bay County Organization is proud to announce Alicia McInerney will be competing against 33 contestants from around Michigan to take the title of Miss Michigan 2012.

Linda Bilhimer, Executive Director of the Miss Bay County Scholarship Program is impressed with the caliber of this year's contestants. "We are very pleased with the number of intelligent, ambitious and talented young women who have entered the competition," Bilhimer said. "With the number of outstanding contestants, it will be a challenging task for the judges to choose the next Miss Michigan. "I'm so proud of Alicia and all of her accomplishments." Alicia is attending Central Michigan University.

Contestants will compete in 5 phases of competition at the competition, including interview, talent, evening wear, on-stage platform question and swim wear.

In order for a young woman to compete in the Miss Michigan Program, they must have won a local program. Alicia is competing to step into the shoes of our local Katie LaRoche Miss Michigan 2010. Currently, the Miss Michigan Program has 33 local programs that send contestants to the state program, and Michigan sends one of our finest ladies to the Miss America Pageant, where over $40 Million dollars in cash scholarships are made available to the 52 state title holders.

Parents of Alicia are Tammy and Joseph McInerney.

Also during the week of Miss Michigan Events, we have Jaeleen Davis and Sarah Anderson representing us in the Michigan Outstanding Teen Pageant. Jaeleen is the daughter of Lisa Davis and David Davis. Sarah is the daughter of David and Jill Anderson. Michigan Outstanding Teen Competition is June 13.
