Lormax Stern Development Company, co-owner, and manager of Bay City Town Center has finalized the sale of the former Target building to Big R Stores.

Just one more piece of the puzzle in the conversion of the property to a "Town Center" with other recent additions of Ollie's and PetSmart.

The Bay City location will be the first Big R department store to open in Michigan and joins 22 other locations in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Ohio. At 101,909-square-foot, this new retailer will complement existing businesses such as JCPenney, PetSmart, Dunham's, Marshalls, Ollies, Planet Fitness, and Bay City 10-GDX when it opens in the first quarter of 2019.

"Finding the right retailer for the former Target building has been a top priority for Lormax Stern since the store closed in 2015," said Barbara Behmlander, General Manager of Bay City Town Center. "This has been a key building to fill for the property and the Wilder Road corridor."

In the last 12 months, Ollies Bargain Outlet replaced Sears, Bay City 10GDX renovated the theater entrance and PetSmart opened in the former food court further improving the curb appeal of the property. The addition of Big R is yet another example of the commitment to transform the Bay City Town Center with a vibrant mix of national, regional and independent retailers intermingled with big box and entertainment options.

Big R Stores has been family owned since it began serving the farm and home community in 1965. The company, now in its second generation of ownership, is headquartered in Watseka, Illinois, and operates 22 stores in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

With 80,000 items, Big R will carry a wide variety of products for Bay City-area shoppers to choose from. The store sells farm supplies, seasonal items, apparel, pet products, sporting goods, houseware, tools, food and much more. Many of the products are from name-brand companies such as Stihl, DeWalt, Milwaukee Tool, Under Armour, Levi Strauss, Cub Cadet and more.

Bay City Town Center is a 526,000-square-foot shopping center located at 4101 East Wilder Road in Bay City. Major stores include JCPenney, Marshalls, Dunham's, PetSmart, Ollies, Bay City 10GDX and dozens of national, regional and local specialty shops and restaurants.
