MOVIE REVIEW: "Hereditary" ... Not my Favorite ...

I went by myself today to see "Hereditary."

I think my friends were the lucky ones.

It was billed as a horror movie but was slow and plodding at the beginning. I almost walked out. I stayed and it got a little better, I think.

The story revolves around an incredibly dysfunctional 3-generation family. It begins with the obituary of the grandmother and goes down from there. It's very confusing. The little girl, played by Milly Shapiro, is bizarre. The mom, played by Toni Collette, is in a constant state of terror and anxiety. The dad, played by Gabriel Byrne, is calm and solid and only gets two scenes where he gets to show emotion. The son, played by Alex Wolff, has the best character in the movie.

It should have been a good scary movie because it had a good premise. But it was confusing, poorly written and directed.

Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 91%. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

So go if you must. Have fun? And as always, eat popcorn.
