Trinity Episcopal Presents the Music of Holy Week

Trinity Episcopal Church in Bay City continues its Evensong and Music Series with The Music of Holy Week on Sunday, March 25, 2018. at 4:00 p.m. The program will feature hymns, anthems, collects and organ music for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

Choral Music to be sung includes classics from the Anglican core repertoire.

  • When I Survey the Wondrous Cross Gilbert Martin (b. 1941)
  • Wash Me Thoroughly S. S. Wesley, (1810-1878)
  • Ave Verum William Byrd, (1539/40-1623)
  • If Ye Love Me? Peter Aston (1938-2013)
  • Greater Love Hath No Man John Ireland (1879-1962)
  • Popule Meus Tomás Luis de Victoria (1548-1611)
  • Where You There Bob Chilcott (b.1955)

    Organ music included in the program are

  • Psalm Prelude Set One, No. II Herbert Howells, (1892-1983)
  • Vexilla Regis Prodeuent Flor Peeters, (1903-1986)
  • Meditation on the Eucharist Richard Ellsasser (1926-1972);
  • Adoro Devote Jackson Hill (b. 1941)
  • Improvisation from 7 Pieces for organ Francis Jackson (b. 1917)

    Hymns that will be sung by the choir and congregation are

  • The Royal Banners Forward Go (Vexilla Regis prodeunt), plainsong, Mode I
  • Praise to the Holiest In the Height (Gerontius), John Bacchus Dykes (1823-1876)
  • Where True Charity and Love Dwell (Ubi Caritas), plainsong, Mode 6
  • Glory Be to Jesus (Wem in Leidenstagen), Friedirch Filitz (1804-1860)

    Participants include -- Jett Whitehead, acolyte and lector; Nicholas Schmelter, organist; Exultate Deo Chamber Choir, Robert Sabourin, director.

    The program is open to the public free of charge. Friends of Music will host a reception in the Guild Room following the program. Trinity Episcopal Church is located at 815 N. Grant Street on the corner of Center and Grant. Barrier-free access is from the church parking lot on Fifth Street behind the church. For more information call 989-892-5813.
