MOVIE REVIEW: Annihilation . . . Good SciFy Movie

I saw "Annihilation."

It was a very good Sci-fi movie.

It was quite thought-provoking and different.

The story revolves around "the shimmer" that appears when a meteor hits a lighthouse. As days and months go by, the area it encompasses expands. The scientists/military send teams in. Only one man comes out.

His scientist wife is enlisted to be on another team to enter "the shimmer" and try to make it to the lighthouse. The wonders they encounter are amazing and beautiful. The storyline goes back and forth between
  • before her husband entered "the shimmer"
  • when he returns and
  • her interrogation after exiting.

    However, this wasn't confusing.

Natalie Portman plays the wife, Lena. She was very good. The other members of her team who enter "the shimmer" were played by Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tuva Novotny, and Tessa Thompson. Oscar Isaac was her husband. They all did fine.

I was impressed by the visual effects. The area inside the shimmer was beautiful and innovative. However, there was some gore and some sexual situations. It has an R rating and deserves it.

So go. Have fun. Eat popcorn.
