Trinity Episcopa Choral Evensong Scheduled for September

Trinity Episcopal Church in Bay City, Michigan announces dates and events for its 2017-2018 Evensong Series. The series will begin with Choral Evensong on Sunday, September 24, 2017, at 4:00 p.m. to celebrate the Feast Day of St. Matthew. Evensong is made up of hymns, scripture readings, canticles, prayers, organ music and a choir anthem. Most of the service is sung by a choir and the congregation.
Participants on September 27 include The Rev. Susan C. Rich, officiant; Nicholas E. Schmelter, organist; Exultate Deo Chamber Choir; Robert C. Sabourin, director; Michael Huntress, cantor; Madden Brady, acolyte;
Dawn Moulthrop-Brady, lector; Megan Farison, Brenda Haydn, David Aukerman and David King, soloists.
The choir will sing "Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in F" (Queen's) by C. V.
Stanford (1852-1924); "Thou Wilt Keep Him in Perfect Peace" by S. S. Wesley (1810-1878); and "God Be In My Head" by John Rutter (b.1945).
Organ Music will include "Romanza Op. 17, No. 2" by Horatio Parker (1863-1919); "Te Lucas Ante Terminum" by John Rutter; and "Marcia Eroica" by C. V. Stanford.
Hymns for the service are "Come Sing, ye Choirs Exultant" (Ach Gott, vom
Himmelreiche) by Michael Praetorius (1571-1621); "O Trinity of Blessed
Light" (Bromley) by Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809); and "He Sat to Watch O'er Customs Paid" (Breslau) from Lochamer Gesangbuch, 1450.
The service is open to the public free of charge. Friends of Music will host a
reception in the Guild Room following the service. Trinity Episcopal Church is located at 815 N. Grant Street on the corner of Grant and Center Avenue. Barrier-free access is available from the parking lot off 5th Street behind the church. For more information call 989-892-5813.
