You can't be friends with a squirrel! A squirrel is just a rat with a cuter outfit.
Sarah Jessica Parker
I stared at the disheveled inside of my garage in disbelief and cursed the dastardly little brown, fluffy-tailed rats that apparently had taken up residency over the winter.
A leftover roll of insulation carefully stored in the storage space rafter, had found its way across the entire floor. Strewn across the patio set, golf clubs, bikes and gardening equipment.
Three million little bits of fabric that mimic broken shards of glass when trying to clean up.
My dad covered their entrance with wood, brought plastic gloves in various sizes, face masks and a raincoat.
And then left. (My dad is a smart man).
So, now it is up to me to transorm what has become a one and half car nest for the neighborhood rodents and I can think of no other task I care to do less.
It ranks right up there with the cleaning the shower drain.
Or dealing with the aftermath of a sewer back-up.
A friend of mine just loves squirrels. She thinks they are "sooo cute". She actually feeds them (!).
As much as I value her friendship, I am stumped and abhorred by her encouragement and invitation of these destructive monsters into her yard.
She doesn't get my disdain. She thinks I am being too hard on the "adorable" creatures.
We haven't had a chance to visit in a while, so I think I'll ask her over for tea and cookies.
Then hand her a set of gloves and a face mask.
