Evermore in the world is this marvelous balance of beauty and disgust, magnificence and rats.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
We all have to do them.
The household jobs that disgust us and bring a new level to the word "gross". We put them off as long as possible until the inevitable stares us in the face and we suit up, put our big girl pants on and dive in.
Oh, I knew the water was emptying too slowly and I ignored it for a ridiculously long time. Then it got really unacceptable, so I plunged.
Then plunged some more.
It helped a little and I let myself be satisfied with the results.
For a while.
But, when I found myself standing ankle deep in rinsed off dirt, shampoo residue and soap, I knew I had to do it.
I could not put this distasteful job on the "Honey Do List", as I do not have a "Honey". It was on my shoulders, and my shoulders alone.
Unearthing what appeared to be a small, calico kitten from my shower drain served to prove a few choice facts.
This task is one of the most undignified to carry out.
It verifies I am not a Princess after all and I have not won the lottery.
Hangers coated in soap scum slime, stink. Figuratively and literally.
I am happy to report though, everything is now magnificently flowing as it should, down the drain. The upshot being my nose did not freeze in a permanent, wrinkled grimace.
And that my friends, is a marvelous thing.
