In addition to digitized full dome, 360° video images, the Planetarium also has the capability to show IMAX movies.
The Delta College Planetarium and Learning Center has just installed a brand new state-of-the art projection system.
The new system is the first in the U.S to use the new JVC projection system which has higher resolution, more pixels and brighter colors than other full dome video systems.
In addition to digitized full dome, 360° video images, it also has the capability to show IMAX movies.
The Planetarium will introduce its new technology to the public on Friday, February 19 at 7 pm.
Delta Planetarium officials state:
"The full-dome experience will completely captivate you. No more rectangular shaped videos, no more slide projector images -- you will be immersed as images and sound will surround you.
Yes, 360 degrees, some call it "circle vision." We simply say, 'Gotta See It!'"
"Thirty thousand students per year - elementary through college - take part in planetarium activities," said Susan J. Montesi, Dean of Learning Centers and Innovative Programs. "Now we'll be able to offer them the highest quality shows available."
The premiere of the new technology is with the new show, "The Enchanted Reef."
"Let us transport you to a tropical reef, a one-of-a-kind world: colorful and foreign, full of adventure and danger, riddles and mysteries, old legends and myths...a world inhabited by creatures that are humorous and courageous, lovable and bizarre, charming and daring!
"The colorful inhabitants of the mythical reef have always lived in peace until a volcanic catastrophe breaks the spell. See the story of how Jake, a young sawfish, and his buddy Shorty, a lively reef fish, restore the magic to their home by following the legend that tells them how to "touch the moon". The show is appropriate for adults and children ages 3+."
If you can't make the opening, other public show times are:
Saturdays, February 20 & 27 at 1 pm, 3 pm & 7 pm;
Sundays, February 21 & 28 at 1 pm & 3 pm;
Friday, February 26 at 7 pm.
Tickets prices are, adults $6, students 3-18 $4, and senior citizens 60+ $5. Advance ticket purchase suggested. Purchase tickets by phone at 989-667-2260 with VISA, Discover or MasterCard.
