The Bay Music Foundation will continue a 50 year tradition by holding its annual music scholarship competition on January 24, 2004 at the First Presbyterian Church in Bay City.
New Programs:This year the Foundation introduced a new educational program to compliment the scholarship competition. Two workshops were held on October 26 including
"
Hand Jive - Feeling the Beat",
a workshop on the elements of rhythm given by Dr. Scott Harding from CMU's music department and Eddy Garcia a professional Latin percussionist, and
"
How Not to Fall Off the Stage",
a workshop on performance techniques presented by Leeds Bird veteran director, actor and retired drama teacher.
On November 26th the Foundation presented a
"
Master Class"
designed to help students work through performance issues relevant to their own study of instrumental music. Experienced music teachers were available to address questions and challenges that may not fit into a regular hectic class schedule. Instructors worked with students and advised them on playing and performance techniques that can make a big difference in a final competition result.
The
2004 Scholarship Competition has been scheduled for January 24th, 2004 at First Presbyterian Church. Applications are being accepted through Mid-January but students are advised to apply as soon as possible.

The purpose of the Bay Music Foundation is to promote and advanced music education and to recognize the many talented young musicians in our community. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization managed by a voluntary board of directors with the help of other volunteers. Scholarships and expenses are funded by contributions from the community. The foundation also benefits from an endowment fund which is administered by the Bay Area Community Foundation.
