Men's recreation softball is HUGE in Bat City. MyBayCity.com would like to recognize Washington Street Irish Pub for their support of our weekly coverage that will bring you scores, standings, pictures and video from all the Men's Rec action down at Vet's.

If you are a softball player or know one please review the team names in the standings and be sure to thank those business owners who sponsor each team.

Sponsorship is a great opportunity for business's to gain exposure for their business and unless it's a bar where the team goes after their games those dollars spent on sponsoring teams is hard to measure without someone mentioning they seen "their team," so be sure to mention that your impressed that they sponsored a team.

Heres the pitch and there's the swing, but where's the bat? It is a FAST game.

The cream will rise to the top over the next few weeks with all leagues being covered here but those teams that are winning will be getting the bulk of exposure here.

So in regards to business owners sponsor dollars, those teams that win will give the most bang for those sponsor bucks. Hopefully it will improve the competition on the field and in the off season when managers are looking for sponsors.

Washington Street Irish Pub is the driving force behind our Men's Rec Softball coverage so drop in on them for some food and a drink and be sure you mention you saw their coverage on MyBayCity.com and thank them for their support. (Women's Rec coverage is sponsored by Two Men and A Truck and will begin coverage next week.)

The girls started a week after the men began play, Two Men and A Truck is the girls softball coverage Sponsor.

Now lets get to it.

So far, with the men into their third week of play, in contrast to last year there have been no rain-outs yet with all games being played on schedule.

Many familiar faces are still behind the plates and making the calls on the base paths and in the coming weeks we will be featuring the umpires of Bay Softball.

If you were not aware the Bay Softball League Management led by President Brad Ayala also has a web site for league news, schedules, standings and scores at www.baysoftball.org although not as stimulating as our coverage here it does provide good basic information.

One of the early Modified "C" League match ups where Stevens Van Lines (blue) took on Rycek/Keits (green). Rycek/Keits won the squeeker 15-12.

With almost three weeks complete, local drug stores are running out of Ben-Gay, BioFreeze and Aspercream as those old atrophied winter muscles are getting used to game action again.

Yonnie Zavala of Hunter's Bar looks a little rusty as he swings and misses against Bay Eye Care. Hunters/Laura's Lounge won the game 15-8.

For some players just running full speed again has been quit a shock to the system.

Going into week four there are no more excuses, those first game pulls and strains should be healing up fine and competition should be heating up.

...but this one Zavala connects as the whole field reacts.

If you have news or information concerning your team you can email me at Kevin@mybaycity.com to be included.

Now after one week of play here are the most recent published standings:

One of the benefits of recreation softball is the strategy sessions after the game as Chris Eichhorn and Yonnie Zavala discuss the game at Laura's Lounge.
