The Musical - Cats
performs April 26-29 and May 3-6, 2007
at The Bay City Players Theatre
The Bay City Player's is wrapping up its 89th season by transforming
Michigan's oldest community theatre into an animal kingdom. The Andrew
Lloyd Webber musical "CATS" will be presented April 26-29 and May 3-6, 2007.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are at 8:00 p.m., and Sunday performances are at 3:00 p.m.
The Bay City Players is one of the first Michigan community theatre to
present "CATS", as the rights just became available January of 2007.
The "CATS" production presents real challenges in staging and producer Kathy
Staudacher says the cast and crew has risen to the challenge "phenomenally."
Gary Asel directs the show along with Matt Reid as Technical Director and
Don Clark as Musical Director.
The Players stage has been widened by four
feet on each side to better accommodate the large cast of 25 "CATS" and lighting has been expanded for the show.
The audience will be introduced to many delightful cats (Jellicle cats, mischievous cats, old cats, theater, magic and railway cats) and Old Deuteronomy, their leader, at the Jellicle Ball.
The cast for "CATS" has been drawn from Bay City, Saginaw and Midland
residents and they are no lounging felines. One of the actors, David
Bowden, was in a nationally touring company presenting "CATS" and has been a
featured dancer on the academy awards. Producer Kathy Staudacher says this
cast "is going to blow people away!"
Based on the universally popular poetry of T.S. Eliot, Cats has become a true musical theatre phenomenon. Cats opened at London's New London Theatre on May 11, 1981 and ran for a record-setting 21 years.
Cats's London success was nearly matched on Broadway where it ran at the Wintergarden Theatre for just over 18 years.
The box office will open to the public on Friday, April 20, 2007. Box office hours are Monday through Saturday from 12 - 2 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m., and Sunday from 2 - 3:30 p.m.
The box office may be reached at 989-893-5555 during those hours. Ticket prices are $18.00 for adults, $16.00 for seniors and students.
Bay City Players is located at 1214 Columbus Avenue in Bay City.
